You can convert files. But you can't burn DVD, CD or Blu-ray discs.

Media -> Convert/Save and choose the file you want to convert and press Convert/Save then from Profile select Windows (wmv/asf) and tick File and choose location where you want to save the file and then press Save.

It is working queerly during flv to mp3 conversion. The flv that I downloaded from youtube is working well in VLC.

I am xpsp3

1. When I select dump RAW mode mp3, it is going through the streaming and then giving the message, no flv file found, look for error in log file. I don't know where the log file is. log file is not in program files/videolan/vlc.

2. when I DONT select dump raw mode mp3, it is converting at half the play speed, so the sounds are coming distorted (that you will get if you play an audio somehow at half speed).

3. it goes on and on and on in conversion, several times. it doesn't stop, gives same error messages.

4. If I don't select a file, it goes ahead trying to convert each and every file in that folder and in all its subfolders, even txt, jpg, whatever files, and throws error messages in all. It is stupid.

Seems a lot of work need to be done in convert/ save feature to bring it to the high level of rest of vlcplayer.

You don't have to convert YouTube audio. It already is MP3 file, use FLV Extract for the job.

Could someone tell me how to convert a DVD (or VOB file) into a format that can be used in Windows Movie Maker?
I have tried lots of diferrent things using the Media/Convert function but none of them seem to work in Movie Maker.
I have Windows XP SP2, VLC 0.9.6 and Movie Maker 5.1.

I gave up trying to use VLC for converting files. I prefer Mobile Media Converter from MIKSOFT. It's free.

I depends about the resolution of the original video and bitrate you set to VLC. With modern machines WMV2 encoding should be pretty fast.

I am transcoding to MP3 and am getting the same results: where the result file is at half speed.

If anyone knows anything about that, I have another thread I've started for that issue...

Found the answer for my issue (in the post above) by searching around the forums for other terms.

I added samplerate=44100 to the transcode section of my parameter string and the speed is back to normal!

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the two others where a converted file keeps coming out half speed. I can't really find an answer based on previous responses.

I successfully converted a small video clip on the latest VLC player from flash into a windows readable clip. But when I did a larger file the exact same way it came out half speed.

Here is what I did in the conversion in both cases. I made it an avi file, under encapsulation I chose ASF/WMV, under Video Codec I chose WMV1, under Audio Codec I chose WAV (don't know if I needed this since I'm working with a video but I did it just in case). It worked out fine for the small clip. For the larger clip that came out half speed I played around with the bitrate and frame rate and it kind of worked but not really. I am very new at this and since I am basically using trial and error I have no idea how to really fix this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It won't be .AVI file if you selected ASF/WMV encapsulation. And if you could share use some info about the files (tool called Mediainfo should give them), it would help.

I did have troubles deciding on what file type and container info etc... I tried to cobble some decisions up after reading some info on wikipedia....
For media information I found:

1) Under the “general” tab it doesn’t have anything but the title of the file and that it’s an flv file.

2) Under the “extrametadata” tab it’s blank

3) Under “codec details” stream 0
a. Type: audio
b. Codec mp4a
c.Channels stereo
d. Sample rate 44100

4) Under codec information stream 1
a. Type: video
b. Codec avc1
c. Resolution 438 x 360
d. Display resolution 438 x 360
e. Frame rate: 29.967000

5) Under the statistics tab it varies as the clip plays then blanks when the clip is finished.

I left this alone for a couple days and came back to it, started fresh downloading and converting the same clip and for some reason it worked this time. I must have tried at least 30 times the other days and for some reason it worked out. I wonder if it had something to do with the original clip I was working with?

I started downloading and converting some random youtube clips to test and get he hang of it some more and some worked fine while others only converted the audio portion and left the video portion out altogether. So this is a new problem I have yet to solve. Could it be something about the original clip itself and if so is there a way around this?

If the clip is somehow damager or corrupted, there is bigger change that it will fail during conversion.

When you use Browse to select filename, just name it as movie.avi, movie.mp4 or similar. You can also change extension from Window Explorer.
