Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U no sound in VLC, video fine.

Postby contact_sports » 22 Nov 2008 02:48

I searched through the forums and found another reference to this issue back in June, but nothing else.

Video works fine, but no audio. The source is DirectShow, but there aren't any specific audio devices.

Apparently the sound can be extraced with ALSA in Linux, so I'm thinking about using that.

Other programs, like WinDVD creator play the audio and video fine, so I'm guessing the audio device just needs to be supported?

Thanks.

Hi j-b, thanks for responding.

There isn't any error messages. I'm running the latest stable version of VLC.

When I click on Media->Open Capture Device, I have the following in Capture mode:

- DirectShow
- DVB DirectShow
- Desktop

I choose DirectShow, and under Video device name, I have:

- Default
- None
- Plextor ConvertX M402U A/V Capture

and under Audio device name, I have:
- Default
- None
- NVIDIDA(R) nForce(TM) audio ....................... < This is my onboard sound adapter >

When I click play, I get the video stream, but no audio.

It appears that the audio device is not supported? Do I need a plugin?

Thanks.

configure ur audio device before using it
configure it using vlc somewhere where u select it there should be such a button or under advanced

if u run under windows:

try using the command line
select the recording line using the control panel (eg select microphone for recording)

The audio works fine in other programs like WinDVD Creator, etc. I do not believe this is an issue with configuring the audio device. My sound card works fine, but that is not where the audio is coming from. The M402U is an external USB capture device with MPEG4/DivX hardware encoding. For whatever reason, VLC does not know where or how to get the audio stream. I'm hoping j-b will be able to provide some insight, otherwise, I'll end up installing under Linux and using ALSA to get the stream...

If VLC doesn't display the audio capture device, VLC can't capture it. Better Crossbar support hopefully arrives in future.

But it is a recognized device in Windows if other applications can grab the audio, no??

Many other video capture tools have better Crossbar support. VLC doesn't.
