help stream from an acquisition card

hey,
I want to stream from an acquisition card and, as I am new to both linux and VLC, I have two problems.
I have my acquisition card into a PCI slot and I can't find its name (cooresponding to /dev/video in the syntax for streaming). There is no /dev/video in /dev...
with lspci the machine tells me that the PCTV card is there, but that's all.

the other problem is that I'm not able to locate the configure script on my system in order to add
-enable-v4l
If anyone can help me, please do!
