Fullscreen menu on mouse move : not present on TV

Postby whismerhill » 11 Nov 2008 00:24

hello this menu :
ImageImage
which appears in fullscreen mode while moving the mouse,
does not appear when my computer is configured for single display on TV (old analogic TV)
I don't know whether I should configure something or not though, but seems strange since there's no display problem.
I can provide more information if needed but I just don't know where to start.

Thanks for any help.
VLC versions tried out : 0.9.4 & 0.9.6

I assume that position calculation has some issues. Strange issues also if you run dual display setup (monitor+TV at the same time)?

thanks to your post I tried out more things
the first thing that your "position calculation" make me think about was : screen resolution
of course my tv being old and such the profile for unique display on tv changes the resolution of display to 800x600 (although it isn't really the final number of points displayed it's not really relevant to this discussion)

so I began trying out different resolutions on both my computer and my girlfriend one's
and sure enough here are my results :
-gf computer with 1680x1050 rez : any resolution below 1680x1050 will mean losing the famous bar I talked about earlier , 1680x1050 is fine though.
-my own computer CRT with a quasi-permanent 1280x1024 rez but able to go higher (1600x1200 MAX) :
any rez below 1280x1024 will get no menu showing up
1280x1024 is just fine
1600x1200 is VERY insteresting and give out this placement

in the end I'm surprised I'm the only one who got to exhibit this problem, I suppose the program have a problem getting the resolution change and repositioning the menu accordingly

Additional testing done
I found the culprit setting
Documents & Settings\Your Profile Name\Application Data\vlc-qt-interface.ini

there's a parameter which is not updated and that should probably be updated at each VLC launch:

Code: Select all

[FullScreen] pos=@Point(340 961)
this thing just tells the program where the damn pop up menu should be placed
deleting the "pos=@Point(340 961)" will force the program to reupdate that value and fix the problem

note that in my example 340 961 are 1280x1024 values and are different depending on resolution of course
(540 987 are for 1680x1050 for example)

Thanks, that helped. :D See also this thread: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=50616.

note that you could also specify the wanted coordinates manually
just takes a little testing ;)

Thanks, but what I want is to specify these coordinates relative to the VLC window, not relative to the desktop. The latter doesn't help in multiple monitor scenarios. Now how would I do that? Any clues?

Thanks.

What model of computer mouse looks like a real mouse? I used to have a computer mouse that looked like a real mouse. Anyone know what model that is? I think it was a Logitech.

I'm actually having this problem on v3.0.4, on an iMac running High Sierra, with an old '03 cinema display as my second monitor.

When I switch VLC to full screen on my second display, the control panel shows as still on my primary monitor. And fades before I can click. When I finally can click on it, it pops over to my second display, but nowhere on my screen, and I have to futz around and do all sorts of crap to get it to where I find it and movie it back.

Anyone have a fix for this? It only started doing this recently for me. Like the last update or two I think.
