Unable to play subs from MKV in 0.9.4

Unable to play subs from MKV in 0.9.4

Postby Sanjamal » 11 Oct 2008 21:11

Hi everyone,

I consider myself a VLC noob still, but I am trying to get better. Anyways, I upgraded from 0.9.2 to 0.9.4 today and now I can't get subtitles to play from my MKV files. I was watching a video with subs in 0.9.2, I stopped in the middle, installed 0.9.4, reopened the same file and now when I select the subtitle track from the video menu, nothing happens.

I do get an overlay when I start the file that tells me the name of the current file, but nothing else. I can play subs in AVIs using an SRT file. I checked the sub/OSD options and noticed that no font was selected. I assumed that it's an override option, but I selected arial to see if I could force something to display. That didn't work. I can't find any more info about how to make this work. I could try finding 0.9.2 and installing that, but I figured that there shouldn't be any reason why 0.9.4 won't work.

Here's my rough configuration just in case it helps with this problem:
Intel Core 2 Q6600
4GB RAM
eVGA 8800 GTS
Windows Vista 32-bit

Any help and insights would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,
I'm having the same problem as you with embedded subtitles (it works fine with the .avi and .srt, but no luck thus far with .mkv subtitles) - I can physically select the subtitles (as in there is an option to checkmark), but they won't actually show up on the screen.
Did you manage to fix the problem on your system?

Same here. Having said that, however, it appears as though this has been going on since 0.9.2; ever since the team changed the interface...

Did you guys seriously not notice you broke your own program? There isn't even a version between that and 0.8.6i that has a binary you can update the player with!

I know. I have to find some time to fix this Windows-Only issue.
