How to load subtitles quicklier?

Postby cska133 » 25 Oct 2008 01:02

hallo

I just checked out how to load subtitles whale AVI/DivX is playing, and wonder how difficult it is :-|
I have to open the menu and go deeply into the settings to load the subtitle file. Beside this, when I start another movie, it plays automaticly with the subtitles of the previous movie.

What am I doing wrong?

I think there should be opportunity to have button on the player or at least to have an option "Load subtitles.." by clicking on Menu.
Or do I need different skin for the player?

I am using VLC Player 0.8xxx with the standard skin for it.
Does make sense to upgrade? And to choose new skin? But which one?

Please help me what to change to have quick access to the subtitle files, because I am switching between many languages, this is important for me.

thanks

Just drag and drop the subtitle on the video.

You can try new version by downloading .zip/.7z package and extracting it to somewhere and running it from there (so no need to install for testing). Skins support is little broken with 0.9.4, so wait for 0.9.5 and see if it works any better.

Just drag and drop the subtitle on the video.
but this means that I have to open extra Windows Explorer and go to this subtitle, so I dont think this is a solution.

What means "no need to install for testing"? why do I have to test, it is not a beta-version or something like that?
...ops, or did you mean this because it is a ZIP file, so I have just to extract???
But what about if I want to upgrade? Do I have to install over the existing version or to deinstall it?

VLC_help, as I understand, you advise me to try new skins to have quicklier access to subtitles, did I understand you right?

I read that the new version has better subtitle support, is it true?

Yes, subtitle support is better with new versions (specially A SS/SSA subtitles work better).

I meant, if you don't want to risk your current setup, you can test new VLC without installing it. If you don't like it, then just delete the folder. If you like, you can uninstall the current VLC and install new one.

With 0.9.x you can use Video -> Subtitle track -> Load subtitles... to add subtitle, if you think drag&drop or automatic naming isn't fast enough for you.

With skins, I meant skins support is little broken in 0.9.4 so some skins won't work.

There isn't a load subtitle button. And Video -> Subtitle track -> Load subtitles... have been added after 0.9.x, and you can find .zip from http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html there (locate Windows zip packages)

More like it might come, if someone adds it :D But at least you (and others) can follow the possible development easier.

If I ask there could be that someone helps me and include such button in its skin?

PS: what means AFAIK ?

There isn't a binding for subtitle menu item. So it would require changes to skins engine before the subtitle button would work.

yes, that is what I mean.
I suppose that people in the skin forum are able to create and modify skins... so this would be possible, if someone wants to do it, am I right?

Skin isn't enough.
