Running different Region codes on Mac

Postby Decker » 19 Oct 2008 06:21

I have lived in a lot of countries and I now have a collection of DVD's with different region formats: USA, Europe, and Australia.
Can VLC help me play these DVD's on my MACBook Pro Intel? I am running out of times to change the Region code on the machine. Is there anything special I need to know. Decker

I'm sure the manual has some additional information

However, I have a similar issue and Basically VLC Player is THE solution for playing region infected DVDs on your mac.

what you need to do is change the CD & DVD behaviors in the Preference pane. (e.g DVD= ignored by system)
to get the Mac default DVD Player out of the loop.

Then, when opening the file you can just use the Open DISC menu and it should work with the default choices.

when the Default DVD is not running, the DVD disc should show in the finder also and you can see the file structure.
(don't confuse that with the ability to copy it though,,, you will need other specialized software to do that)

A more lasting solution would be to modify your drive's firmware to make it region-free. However, I don't know if a replacement firmware is available for your particular model.
