MPEG-2 TS files - restarting

Postby trickards » 04 Oct 2008 01:43

I have been using 0.9.2 for a while and just got 0.9.3. Both seem to have the problem that half way through my TS files the video and audio tracks just restart. It is really strange, can't find anything about it anywhere and at the end of the file, at about 98% seek, it restarts again at the same point in the video as the first time. Happens at the same seek position on every TS i file i own, tested at least 10.

Yet when i switch back to 0.8.6 it works fine! I have tried deleting preferences etc etc, does anyone else have a solution for this?

I don't know if this is OS X specific or not... Really peculiar, would appreciate any suggestions.

I would really like to get back to using 0.9.3!

Thank you for the solution,

Reverting to an older version of VLC to properly view .m2t transport streams recorded from my Set Top Box over Firewire....
worked for me!

I'm also experiencing this weird looping effect in recent versions of VLC 9.2, 9.3, 9.4..... after 30 minutes of playback it goes back
to the beginning????!!!!!!

Since I'm a newbee at recording HDTV content from my Illico (Canada) Set Top Box, I wasn't sure where the problem was.......

You made my day!

Specs.... Scientific Atlanta Explorer 5240 HD, over FireWire cable to Mac Mini Intel, AVCVideoCap to capture streams and VLC 0.8.6 to playback.....

Thanks

Hi all,

I have the same problem here with vlc 0.9.4 on ArchLinux with big SD-TV MPEG-TS files. It seems to me the looping happens as soon as 4 GB are reached (at 2/3 of a 6 GB file for example)
Can anybody confirm this ?

Using vlc --no-file-mmap <file> works around this on Linux.

Filed a bug report: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2188

i just started having this problem, too, glad to know it's not a firewire problem...btw, i've found apple's vDVHS app the best: applescriptable, the ffw button jumps fwd 30sec;-)

is this a per-file option, or can i start vlc with this option & have it applied to all files? i use applescript to open files in vlc...any chance of setting this in the prefs? or patching the .app wrapper?
