streaming multiple channels at the same time

Hi All,
I am very new to this video streaming domain . I have requirement to stream multiple tv channels at the same time . The streams can use http protocol.

Is there any way of implementing using video LAN? if so , can you advice me , what kind of hardware and software I need to install.

I have seen some commercial hardware solutions like exterity (http://www.exterity.co.uk) etc.

But is there any open source solution for achieving this ?

Yes. This is in the streaming howto on the official website documentation.

VLC on the software side. Nothing spectacular on hardware side.
