Too Slow Playback - Windows Vista x64

Postby titansking » 30 Sep 2008 08:03

Hi Guys,

I am using an HP xw4400 Workstation which has a Nvidia Quadro FX 1500 Graphics card with 256MB DDR2 Memory. My other system config is like this:

Processor - Pentium D 3.40GHz Dual Core
RAM - 3GB, 667 MHz (3x1GB DIMM)
HDD - 1TB 7200 RPM
Sound Card - Realtek High Def Audio
OS - Windows Vista Ultimate (SP1) x64
VLC Player Version - 0.8.6i
System Score - 5.0

I have downloaded a 1080p version of a movie. The file is around 13GB. When i try to open the file for playback in VLC Player, the first initial 5 seconds play good, but after that, the screen just goes black. However the audio plays good. But i am unable to see any video after the initial period of 5 secs. If i forward, the video again plays back for about 2 secs and then again goes off. I dont think here my system config could be an issue. Could anyone here suggest me a way for playing the video.

Thanks in advance for all ur support.

Only option that will help is disabling loopfilter. VLC doesn't have very efficient H.264 decoder.
Tools -> Preferences... (Show settings All) Input / Codecs -> Other codecs -> FFmpeg and set the Skip the loop filter for... to All. Press Save and restart VLC.

I tried this. However, things are better now, but intermittently the video lags behind.

Had same issues with 1080p video with single and D Core, but new faster Core 2 Duo and Quad remedied that immediately. :)
Do any other Players run without any problems?

I prolly will with CoreAVC + Media Player Classic. But with VLC, you just have to wait for faster FFmpeg H.264 decoder.
