explorer context menu

Postby techcafe » 08 Mar 2007 10:39

i don't recall the VLC installer asking permission to modify explorer's context menus; this intrusive behaviour should be changed in the next release, the default should be to NOT change file type associations or modify the way explorer handles media files (right-click), UNLESS the user explicitly chooses to enable these options, preferably via VLC's Settings/Preferences dialog.

so, HOWTO - remove VLC items (Add to..., Play with...) from the windows explorer context menu (without uninstalling VLC)?

I agree. So how do you remove these context menu items? I only installed VLC to play certain rare troublesome vid formats that other players cant. I searched through all the preferences and am surprised to see that theres no option there for removing these context menu items. Very annoying and am about to uninstall it due to this, so hope someone can show the way. Thanks.

You don't have to install VLC. Download .zip or .7z files and just extract VLC to somewhere and create shortcut to desktop or to start menu. And during the install, you can disable File type associations and Context menus if you don't want them.

When you install, it does ask. You just have to read carefully before clicking next next next.
