Just tried it with a standard 128kbps MP3 file
Does the files have to be of some type (like 128 or 320 ecc.)?

Try with the latest nightly build:

No it shouldn't. The reason I said standard 128kbps MP3 is since I have some 320kbps LAME 3.98 alpha build MP3 files where the track length is 00:00/varies randomly in VLC (a common bug in a few other players too). Providing the track is >30 seconds it should be fine.

Also make sure that scrobbling is enabled by going to "Tools >> Preferences..." and in the "Audio" section that "Enable Last.fm submission" is ticked etc.

When playing an audio file press "Ctrl+M" and change the messages verbosity to "2". You should then see (at the end of the song) what happens with the audioscrobbler submission.

Cheers, Arite.

Thank you!
I'm trying. Is it the vlc-1.0.0-git-20080910-0303-win32-debug.7z or the vlc-1.0.0-git-20080910-0303-win32.7z file? Sorry but I'm not very used at these version names..
ciao

USe 0.9.2-rc1
^ Got there before me :):

Try VLC 0.9.2-rc1 (from here):
http://people.videolan.org/~jb/Builds/0.9.2-rc1/win32/

Get the *.exe for the installer, *.zip for non-installer, and *.7z if you want a smaller version of the *.zip version and have 7-Zip/7z compatible archive extractor.

Awesome - it works :D:

Code: Select all

audioscrobbler debug: Submission successful!

Sorry a last question: does scrobbling refer only to mp3s? Doesn't it read when I listen to a CD or other formats?

You need to have properly tagged audio files which VLC recognises. Works fine with e.g. FLAC (and presumably Ogg Vorbis etc.). Audio CD's does contain meta data (except e.g. CD Text) so unless the metadata is aquired from the net probably won't scrobble (haven't tested CDs on 0.9.x yet).

Mmm, but VLC recognize my audio CDs, with album and songs name... :? Could be a feature request for the plugin...
But at this moment, it doesn't scrobble CDs. Actually I want to point out that I'm not pretending it.. :P
great work till now!

Well try scrobbling with a normal MP3 file to see if that works, then try an audio CD.

As there is NO libcddb support on windows, I doubt that for a CD it will work on windows.

Else, everything is yes.

Yeah the with mp3s it works perfectly. With other formats didn't try yet. With audio CDs doesn't work. But I found it strange because the names of album and songs are there on VLC playlist when I play it.

@ j-b I don't know what is libcddb. Is it is a indicization tool for bringing the CD names?

Im using the nighly builds of VLC on Mac OS X (great program btw! can't stand Itunes).

The submissions to Last.fm used to work fine, but when I look now it seems like nothing has been submitted in the last 12 days and I can't remember which version of vlc I had at the time.

Does any one know which is the latest mac version where the last.fm support works?

I'm sorry if I can't get too technical, but I love this player and I'd like to use it to scrobbel to Last F.M. I'm using Windows Vista, I have the latest build, 0.9.2, and yes, I have entered my Last F.M. user name and password in the option tab in VLC, but music refuses to even show up in my Last F.M. profile when played through VLC. Also, forgot to mention that yes, I saved the info. after I typed in the user name and password. Still no go. What am I doing wrong? Please help. Thank you kindly. :D

Did you restart VLC afterwards? When playing a properly tagged audio file (>30 seconds) go to "Tools >> Messages..." and click on the "Modules tree" tabs. interface "audioscrobbler" should be in the list.

Also if you click on the "Messages" tab, and raise the verbosity to "2" then when the track is finished you should be able to see the audioscrobbler submission log.

Uh, every track is being submitted twice. I was using 0.9.3, but I just updated to 0.9.4 and the issue is still occurring. OSX 10.4.11

Help?

Code: Select all

audioscrobbler debug: Submission successful! audioscrobbler debug: Submission successful!

So isn't any chance to see my audio CD playlist scrobbled too on Windows? Do you know another application that can do it? So I can use that only for CDs and VLC for all the rest.
Thanks :)

I am guessing all cddb/gracenote enabled programs can sniff enough information if they are commercial CDs. Like Winamp.
