Recieving Streams fro 2 different sources

Postby Beginner1 » 07 Sep 2008 18:57

I want to implement the following scenario-
1. Recieve in my PC audio/video streams from 2 different sources.
2. In certain time I want to enable in my speakers only one of the audio streams while mute the other, while in some other time I would like to exchange the active audio source and mute the first one.
3. The video portion could disply for both sources concurrently on my PC.

Is that posible and how?

You could hack something up using bridges from the Mosaic framework (see Mosaic). Basically you get 1 VLC to act as a background daemon which would: listen to the 2 streams, stream them again as 2 streams, 1 with 1 video track and 2 audio tracks, the other with 1 video track and no audio.
Then launch 2 VLCs to listen to each of the streams. The one listening to the 1 video track and 2 audio tracks stream will be able to chose the audio track to play (you can even use the 'b' hotkey to cycle through the audio tracks), the one listening to the 1 video track stream will just display it.

Regarding my original question, I tried to read from 2 differenet sources using UDP. The reciever works fine even if I switch between the sources, and there is no break, just a freez...
Can someone explain that please?
In the case of multiple sources with UDP, does the reciever sumerize the streams or does it disply just one of them?

Is there other alternatives?
Not that I know (at least not if you want 2 simultaneous videos and the ability to toggle the audio track easily)
