Recording a stream wipes out the recording when stream ends

Postby ^xRun^ » 03 Sep 2008 20:49

Hi.
I use VLC to record a stream from a TV channel here in Norway.
I'm using a shortcut to start VLC that looks like this:
C:\Multimedia\Video\VLC\vlc.exe http://webtv.tv2.no/webtv/metafile.asx?p=113792&bw=1400 :sout=#duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{access=file,mux=asf,dst="D:\Video Capture\Sonen_Sumo_opptak_A.asf"}} :sout-all

This opens the stream and uses it as input, selects the right bitrate 1400kbit, then sends the stream both to screen and to disk as an asf file for later conversion.

The main problem I have is that the stream sometimes drops out for too long, or the stream may end, and VLC then seems to try to reload the stream and fail at doing so. This causes the previously stored data from the stream, up until the stream dropped out, to be overwritten by a zero bytes file with the filename given in the shortcut, wiping out what was recorded so far.

How can I make it so that VLC doesnt try to reload the stream when it fails, thus keeping the recorded data?

try adding --sout-keep to your command line.

Hmm didn't seem to work, still looking for a solution.
