DirectX or Direct3d output crashes? (topic and body text say two different things)

it crashes with :

default
directX 3d video output
directX video output

All I can see is a black screen.
Ok, it's not technically a "crash" but it uses 100% of the cpu, i have to kill it with the task manager, which takes 1 minute to appear (because of the aformentioned cpu usage... :)).

thanks

You have AGP or PCIE display adapter?

You have updated your chipset drivers also (AGP/GART driver)?

It's an nForce 3 chipset so quite old, but yes, I have the latest drivers
(i think i didn't have to install anything (but the graphic drivers) when reformating with sp3, anyway i installed the 5.11 gart, memctl and smbus, it didn't help at all).

I don't have XP SP3 machine around, but there shouldn't be so big changes in SP3 that they would cause issues like that (VLC + Fraps combo has cause some issues). If you have coding skills, you could do backtraces and maybe figure out what is causing the problem.

I *think* that when you install a new gart driver, you then have to reinstall the regular video driver to get the full benefit. In case you haven't reinstalled the video driver since the latest gart driver install, it should be quick and easy and harmless to try.

Best Wishes
