VLC & Autoplay (yes, tried the obvious...)

Postby Weeble » 12 Jul 2008 23:34

Hola,

Ever since I got Vista Ultimate (x64) I've been having problems with getting VLC to be my default player for DVDs (both normal & enhanced).
For some reason the option to automatically play the DVDs using VLC doesn't appear in the auto-play menu or the Control Panel > AutoPlay panel. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling VLC several times (with cache flushes) to no avail and was wondering if anyone had any other ideas, other than directly manipulating the registry! I've been through the Settings, playing about with those under the 'Advanced' section but none of them seem to help.

I do, however, have the option to play the DVDs with VLC if I right-click on the drive through My Computer. But it gets a bit tedious having to do this for every film!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Edit I currently have VLC 0.8.6i installed.

Start -> Default programs and Change AutoPlay settings
I am not sure if current VLC installer handles Vista correctly.

I have exactly the same problem and it seems to be a specific 32-/64-bit-difference problem. I don't mean compatibility, but maybe naming-issues within the system. On my workplace-PC Vista Business 32-bit is running and I can set VLC within the autoplay-settings. On my Vista Business x64 PC at home VLC is completely missing in autoplay-settings. Both PCs have SP1 installed. On the 32-bit PC VLC always was available in the autoplay-settings, I think from v0.86c on (the first I installed on that pc). On the 64-bit PC it still isn't (v0.86i).

I tried the Registry-entries of the post "Better Vista support", but after a reboot there was no change.

Greetings,
Felix

maybe that works as guidance for Vista x64 Autoplay problems.
