VLC does not decode all videos downloaded anymore - I have just downloaded a torrent of The Dark Knight from SUMO's site (Supposedly a DVDRIP) and the file is 716,724kb and it only plays for 20 seconds and tells you that the content is blocked and to play you need to download a "free" vlc converter from dlit.us/playon which costs us$29.95 per month to subscribe to.
It seems that someone has worked out how to get around vlc playing everything.
the torrent is The Dark Knight BATMAN HD-DVD RiP [Eng-French] AC3 2008 [XViD] O-DUQA avi
It is a pain in the neck that people put these things up for free and then it is not as they try to trick you into paying - if they were up front then you would save a lot of time and effort.

Do not fall for it. Its just some stupid tricks to make you download the stuff

This might be done for two motives
1) increase their upload ratios
2) lure into their site and get money from you

SO STOP FALLING FOR THIS TRICKS

I faced the same thing... I downloaded this torrent The.Mummy.Tomb.of.the.Dragon.Emperor.PROPER.[XviD].HQ.HDTV.[ENG].[VeryBest].-PreVail and then i was told to go to dlit.us/server website and download the "FREE" VLC Converter which actually costs around $30...Those guys who are doing this I guess are con artists of a new generation.. :? And you get more frustrated after actually having downloaded the entire file...DAMN!!!

@J-B: How do you get to know what is the codec? Sounds like a stupid question but I have not done much with videos earlier....

Use VLC to play the file.
As I have already said and so have so have others that we are using the VLC Player to play the files :) ... Until now there was no prob, but now when we are playing this particular media file which is say of 700 MB, it plays for about 20 secs telling us to download the "FREE" VLC Converter which actually costs $30... So the point being that its not the question of using the VLC player, we already do that. But how to now play this particular file that we have downloaded without purchasing the VLC Converter from dlit.us/server... I hope now you have understood what I wanted to say... :)

FEC and Playout Buffer in VLC

Postby yuniara » 31 Jul 2008 14:28

Hi..All..
I'm trying to implement FEC (Reed Solomon) and playout buffer algorithms in VLC, but I can not find the code area for them in native VLC (i'm using VLC 0.8.6h). Where could i implement them in VLC 0.8.6h, and what else must i prepare to do these modifications ? Thanks.

It's a scam. The file you have is 20 seconds of video with 699MB of filler bytes. Nothing's getting unlocked.

There is a same problem with another torrent
Batman.The.Dark.Knight.%5BDvDRiP.HDTV%5D.DirectorsCut.%5BMULTI%5D.2008.-mVs.avi
I think there is no video to decode
the message is 700 mb itself and even you purchase the software from dlit.us, you're going to get nothing

Does anyone has a solution to this issue, even i am facing the same problem. I downloaded "Wanted" from torrent portal and the file when played is asking to download the vlc converter from dlit.us/playon. If you have found some solution could you please suggest that to me as well. Will be a great help in a frustrating incident as this.

Cheers
Sandeep

This a WORKING torrent for the film. You can check the downloads on TORRENTZ dot COM and as long as the torrent name matches this it will work, becaue I watched it yesterday with VLC with no probs, only thing I didnt like was that most of the chinese dialoge in it doesnt have engkish subs after 20-30 mins in, I thing the subs on the film itself are greek or maybe Estern Block (maybe russian, possably checz, I really dont know)

But check it out if you still wanna copy of the movie

To: "prashant_valluri" -----> Same thing has been happening to me @ Limewire. The only thing I can suggest (& I'll be generating a new post on this in the "General" type Forum on this 'VLC Decoder/Media Player Dwnld;

A) - Take advantage of the "PREVIEW" function at your particular download website. There is a 'very good chance' that the 'Go dwnld VLC to view' portion of the Video is the very first thing downloaded by the Server. Thus, you will know (@ 2-5% or so) if your getting the VLC pre-cursor ad prior to actual dwnld.

B) - I'm new here - but not to 'Forums' per se. So, are all these Q's @ the various sub-categories on VLC related to those that have installed it here? If not, shouldn't they all be enlightened?

Good Luck, quikstudy

I faced the same thing with "Wanted", if I understand that right even if you pay for the decoder it will not work.
Also downloaded "Zack and Miri make a porn" and there it said I have to purchase a password on cryptoguardian.com which turned out to be an incridible scam. It wants to force you to either sign up at usenext or subcribe for some kind of magazine and for that it promisses to send a password via email. Incredible.
Which sites are safe for really free downloading and how can one recognize them?

Simply download only releases by known and respected scene groups, they are never scam. But anyway this is not a file sharing forum so ask elsewhere.
