Please forgive me for my ignorance of this product. I am seeking a solution for a specific need and came across the VideoLAN forum during a google search. I know very little about what this open source product was designed for, but i am hoping it is a fit for our needs.
I work at a public safety net hospital in the southwest. We have a head-end system that distributes satellite TV to televisions thoughout the hospital. We have several open channels that we would like to broadcast on-demand patient education content. We have seen demonstartions of great commerical systems that allow the patient to select the education content along with entertainment content etc. Most of these systems are very expensive and would require additional investment in infrastructure (set top converters, pillow speakers, etc).
We want to take baby steps on this and are looking for a solution that would allow us to host content on a media server that is accessible by the nurses on the floors via a web browser. They would select the content the wish to view and direct it to output on one of 5 or 6 channels that are dedicated for this purpose.
Any advice or assistance is appreciated.
Thanks!
