was this not supposed to happen? (m2ts files not playing)

Postby jimboTON » 22 Jul 2008 22:27

Hi, i was told vlc could play nearly everything, so I found it very strange when it didn't play the video from a couple very standard m2ts files I have (I can only hear the audio ).

here is what the log had to say:

ffmpeg error: cannot open codec (Windows Media Video VC1)
main error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WVC1'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Could someone provide some insight on this?

is it not VC1 a pretty common codec? what could be wrong? I'm using VLC 0.86h in Windows XP, no other media players are present (aside from Windows media).

thanks in advance!

I'm afraid not, I don't know how to obtain a small playable part out of a m2ts stream, and the whole thing is pretty big.

But the problem seems to be the one described in the wiki so it's all right ;)

I was afraid something was wrong with my pc, VLC installation or whatever..

Well, we have the codec, so we should decode it, wiki or not.

You use VLC 0.9.2?

All the samples played great with VLC 0.9.2 and Vista x64, 6700 Quad Core and nVidea GPU. :D

I'm still getting the message the WVC1 is not supported - using 0.9.2.

I have a few files that I could perhaps post.
