Hardware compability list - We need your help!

Postby dionoea » 10 Jul 2006 14:38

Since lots of people have been asking for a list of capture cards and other input devices know to work with VLC, a wiki page has been started here (in the VideoLAN wiki). Please add hardware you know to work with VLC.

Thanks,

Should we add all type of devices? DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T, ASI, etc?

Postby jamesd553 » 21 Jul 2006 19:51

I have a TDK indicapture USB 2.0 capture device that streams a MPEG2 but VLC does not seem to see it.

WinXP
ATI Radeon vid card
P4 2.6, 500Mb ram

It just seems to shut down when you try to play the stream.

Hauppauge WintTV-HVR1100 DVB-T/Hybrid works with VLC.

But VLC sometime crashes. So my dream of a streamingserver is clouded.

How about cards that don't work? ;)

I have some hardcore Blackmagic Decklink HD/SDigital cards here that blow up instantly :D

Both of my Mini-DV camcorders work on Windows through dshow://, although I can only get one of them to work at a time, since they both appear to have the same name to VLC.

Yes, the Logitech Quickcam on Windows XP Home works fine. The quality is crap but it's a cheap camera.

Sony USB cameras, that have usb streaming option. My camcorder Sony Digital8 DCR-TRV280 NTSC, when captured and played locally the resolution is very, very small, (somewhere along the lines of 100x80). When using Sony's program it is at 600x600 something like that. (4:3 or 16:9)

My terratec cinergy XS (USB - dual analog & DVB-t) works under windows.
DVB-T is just fine, directshow has a long standing bug with localized tuners and I can't have it finding all the channels for my country code (I'm in Italy and it just scans 10 channels) but this is a windows bug.

Hauppauge WinTV streams for days just fine. I can also stream a Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and a Logitech Quick Cam Web, all using Windows XP Pro SP 2.

scientific atlanta SA8300HD cablebox.

I rip content I have recorded on my DVR that is provided by my cable company.

I do this using the firewire port on the back of the box, and connect to my PC. I used the drivers available with firestb (google it if u need them) so Windows XP recognizes my cablebox.

Then I record the mpeg streams onto my PC with VLC, which is the only program I have found that works.

I am still working out all the kinks of converting formats around without losing quality once I have the raw stream, but I am making good progress thanks to this software.

"Creative Live! Cam Vista IM" works perfectly on Linux using the ov51x.jpeg driver
