VLC quits playing...

Postby goblynn93 » 07 Apr 2006 03:08

Running VLC to playback a timelapse video I made with AE and compressed using Divx's Create tool to convert the uncompressed vid to a size my laptop can playback... I set the playlist to loop the one item I have loaded and set it to run and it does great for a while. Then it just quits... no warning, no message, just gone...

I do get Event Viewer Entry:
Dr. Watson, Event 4097
The application, C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 04/06/2006 @ 17:48:54.437 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 49205845 (<nosymbols>)

I'm not sure if the crash is consistent at the same point but happens after the video loops several times...

Any ideas on what may be wrong? Or where I can start to trouble shoot? VLC beats the CRAP out of WiMP imho and I would love to have it stable so I can show it off/trust it to do what I need it to...

Thanks for the help... I've listed some PC stats below and I can offer up anything else anyone needs to know...

Try updating your version of VLC.

0.8.5 Test 2 is under way and it would be easier to track this if it is really a problem with VLC and not something about your particular hardware or software setup.

Greetings,

similar error occurs to me :( I'm using VLC 0.8.6f, Win XP Pro SP2, AMD Duron 2000+ 1.3GHz, 128MB RAM (although the XP insist that there are only 112MB RAM), sound card C-Media CMI9739, graphics card SiS 740 (16MB)...How can I get rid of that? It interrupts me only when I'm playing back the mp3s from the playlist. Thanks to all.
edit: here's the Event Viewer output regarding the issue.

128MB RAM (although the XP insist that there are only 112MB RAM)
Your display adapter uses those 16 megs. But that isn't the reason for your problems :D

If you could try 0.8.6i and 0.9.0 builds and see if the problem still exists.

And those Event Viewer logs aren't useful (backtraces are but they might be too much job for normal users).

This seems to be some sort of generic problem. For the past year, I'd been streaming media content form a Media Center PC to an iMac over Airport without difficulty. Suddenly, something happened--I suspect it has something to do with Apple's last firmware update to Airport. Perhaps it has something to do with the default cache size. You can change it in the Windows client for VLC, but not the Apple client. I tried simply copying the file to my iMac hard disk (time capsule), but it was too slow, and none of the players recognized the stream format. I've tried different players to play the shared media file, but the same thing happens, so it is unlikely to be a media player issue. Apple tech support told me Apple doesn't support sharing and would not help. So, I hope someone at VideLAN figures it out, because VLC would be of no value to me in my current configuration.

Well, a bit scared by the huge red capital letters at Nightlies web page :D I've rather tried 0.8.6i and...no error msg so far :P Thanks to all, again...
