Ubuntu 8.04 - DVD decryption

Postby Quaoar » 09 Jul 2008 11:11

A friend recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 and added to it the version of VLC which is part of the Ubuntu distro. It works fine except it can't decrypt DVDs. I added to his system the <libdvdcss2_1.2.8-1_i386.deb> that I use on my Debian system. But that did not solve the problem. (libdvdcss2 works fine for me on Debian).

Has anyone here succeded in getting DVD decryption working with Ubuntu 8.04?

Maybe try the latest version of libdvdcss2_1.2.9-1_i386.deb.

It might also be a good idea to uninstall both VLC and libdvdcss and to reinstall them at the same time using the following command:

Code: Select all

apt-get install vlc libdvdcss2

You may also be unlucky and have a dvd drive with a rpc2 firmware which libdvdcss can't bypass
