nightly builds and http

Postby ed76 » 30 Jun 2008 21:48

i have testest several nightly builds all with the same probleme: http dont work. i make a shortcut with: ........vlc.exe --extraintf=http --http-host :8080 --sout-transcode-fps 25.0000 --http-caching=32192 (which work good with vlc version 0.8.6.x). if i type http://127.0.0.1:8080/ in internet explorer nothing happens. thanks for answers in advance!

I have the same problem but http://127.0.0.1:8090 in my case (router uses 8080) does not work in 0.8.6 either. I had to use by computers IP address but that is a disabled function in the nightly's. According to the readme file you have to alter the .hosts file but I don't know how to do that.

There shouldn't be need to alter .host file for 127.0.0.1 to work. You can open .host with notepad and change access list if you want.

127.0.0.1 does not work so I was using the ip adress of my computer assigned by the router which is different and does not work in nightly but does in 0.8.6h. I was talking about changing the .hosts file to allow this address to access the http interface but I do not know anything about .hosts files and can not alter them myself without some guidance.

Just open the .hosts file with notepad and add the IP addresses there that you want give access to VLC HTTP interface (whitelist method, so you only allow certain addresses).

I still am unable to open the http interface after adding my ip address or from my laptop after adding its ip address. I also tried turning of my firewall but I still could not open it. I am using Vista, could that be the problem.

I found the issue (at least with the nightlies).
http folder should be inside folder called share. So create new directory and name it share and copy http folder in it.
so there should be folder called vlc\share\http
EDIT:
I posted this to mailing list also.

Thanks it works now. Is there going to be any changes to the http interface for 0.9.0? I was hoping to be able to control capture devices with it. I want to be able to stream from my tv tuner within my house and be able to change the channel.

Does Tools -> Messages give any additional information?
