And yes, a link to nightlies.videolan.org will be really really nice

Even the main site needs that link. Whats the point of hiding that page ? Why can't we put it up in the front for all to see ?

Yes, when people come into this forum they should know that there are nightly builds available for testing and that, if they still find a bug or feature missing, they can file a ticket.

(directed to j-b) Oh, and on the main page of the trac, users should be reminded to search for a ticket before creating a new one. There are a lot of duplicates made when people forget to search, CloudStalker has made some himself.

OK well I'll post a screenshot etc. of prosilver with just the videolan header added to overall_header.html (which is what I started off doing originally).

Yes, that could be useful. I suppose the nightlies site could be added to the header, however it is not necessarily a link which standard users might want. The reason the nightlies site is used so much is since there are so many changes in the 0.9.0-git builds since the current stable bugfix releases of 0.8.6 - once 0.9.0 is released the nightlies site would probably not be used as much by standard users (if you see what I mean ?).

The nighlies site is linked from the developes page. Still, it could be added to the header bar I suppose. Another place could be on the VLC media player (i.e. download page) in a "panel-orange" class division on the right.

True, I just based the forum one on the VideoLAN planet one since that is also a separate subdomain to the main website.

I think there is enough space here to add a Nightlies link on the headder and still ensure that atleast 1024x768 resolution users are able to see the full header.

And the videolan logo on the search bar must redirect to the main site, not the forums. The FORUMS link must redirect to the forums

Only thing with that is that the header bar would not be identical to other VideoLAN sites. I suppose an alternative would be placing it to the right of where the "VideoLAN" logo is currently - however unless abosolute positioning is used (which has cross-browser compatibility issues IIRC), the structure would need to be modified again.

That would be risky, because many newbies will think that the latest nightly is the latest official release, and since it probably is very buggy, they'll badmouth VLC everywhere and nobody will download the player anymore and the project will have to die a horrible death...
Of course, this could probably be easily avoided with a huge RED WARNING at the top of the nightlies page.

Since there isn't much to do really to the theme could I ask for the following to be placed on line 106 of common.css (located in styles/videolan/theme):

padding: 0 0px 12px;

Which just appends 12px to make the bottom padding 12px as it is with the default prosilver theme.

Just my 2 cents: I like the version with the subtitles pref cone in the tool bar next to the VideoLAN logo. (and about nightlies ... it might become dangerous soon to have a nightlies link since 0.9.0 will be out and massive breakage is likely to happen again ... except if we have links to 0.9.0 bugfix nightlies)
