Http video on demand question

Hi all,

I just found about this software and was playing with it. I read the docs and managed to stream between 2 pcs, multicast, http stream VOD etc.

One thing I can't seem to do is stream AVI (DIVX/XVID) file. AVI (DIVX/XVID) files work when I'm connecting 2 VLCs, but not through http for Video on demand. I can stream MPGs through VOD, but not AVIs.

Am I missing something? the docs say that divx should work with VOD;

quoting from the docs:

"Make your MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 / DivX files available to the clients on the Web server."

Can anyone help?

C'mon 100 views and not a single reply? Surely there must be someone who's using web server to do video on demand? Is it possible at all to stream VOD in DivX format?

which webserver is used here? I'm particularly concirned with this line here:
access_http debug: Content-Type: multipart/byteranges; boundary=XITAMI_DELIVERS
Seems the webserver wraps the data in this mime type, and vlc does not know how to unwrap it.

Just for the record, also try 0.8.0-test2

Ahhh, thanx for the reply, for a moment I thought this is one of the unfriendly places where they ignore "newbies" :-)

Ahyway, the webn server used is the one I found free on the internet, I guess I can use ANY other I don;t care if it works. Can you suggest one?

I'm using now Xitami web server, very small and easy to setup...

I just need it for my home network (3 PCs) so I didn't want to bother with setting up apache or such...

it's quite a bit more complicated than xitami to setup, but worth the trouble. it will stream divx (avi) files as long as you use a viewer such as VLC to read the stream.

So it was the webserver... I installed Apache and it worked just fine... and no, it's not such a problem to setup... I just had to change 2 lines in the config file... :-)

I downloaded the latest (test2) version and it works as well. I noticed several improvements (i.e. OSD).

The only problem I have now is that searching in a video doesn't work; It is not displaying the correct video length and moving inside the film doesn't work... anyone has any experience with this? A bug, feature or am I doing something wrong? :-)

Sorry to be pain in the a**, I'd just like to know wheather video search should work in Video on demand mode or I'm (again) doing something wrong... Basically, what I get for any video is lenght of 1-2 minutes and on pressing ctrl-arrow(s) instead of going forward in stream, nothing happens...

It's because you use files multiplexed with container that have indexes.
Use TS, for example, and skips will work.
