I am not able to play some avi files with VLC. I am on OS X Leopard 10.5.3. VLC just quits when attempting to play the files.
The same files play just fine with Mplayer for OS X?
I am not sure if this applies to all avi files or only to these ones. But I have no idea how to go about fixing this.

What are VLC's messages when the *.avi files are played (Go to "View >> Messages..." or something similar before opening the *.avi file(s))?

It crashes before I can see any messages. There are no new messages after re-opening.

Can you please describe the contents of the AVI ? For instance, is it VP7 or a similar unsupported Video Codec by any chance in the AVI ?
