Features I Would Like !

Postby courtjester2003 » 31 May 2008 17:46

It would be so great if you can have album artwork support for mp3's and support for more codecs. It's already a got the potential and the software is even greater than winamp, wmp, and the rest of the crap.

I requested 'album art display' many months ago myself in the early 0.9 development versions I saw it there

What I wanna know is if the new 0.9 VLC csupports embedded art from mp3, wma and aac files as well as the standard folder.jpg method of a album cover in a folder

Good work guys, I use VLC and KM Player daily :)

OK that is good that it will support art from inside mp3.

Why doesn't the nightie build support this then or is it that it is still ebing fixed. For instance look at this pic I have snapped and uploaded. On the pic I have drawn two arrows.

The green arrow points at vlc 0.9 gt album art field in where their is no art displayed for a mp3 track that has embeeded art. The red arrow simply shows that there is art embedded through the shell extension id3 tag editor AudioShell

BTW I love the new default album art pic and the volume meter - very cool

There is also two futher things I wish to know regarding this:

1. In the nightie/beta, I go to Tools>>Media Information - and I dont see any of the information there for mp3 files, is this normal or is this still going to be fixed for final version because I dont always use playlists to want to see displayed information like album art e.g. if I am just playing a single mp3 file on the family computer.

2. Will album art (embedded or folder) be supported on wma, aac and ogg files also

3. Useful Suggestion - Add drag and drop to the playlist and add drag and drop for the album art field for supported image files because of the new possiblity for editting tags :)

3. Also before final version you should add 90 degrees left , 90 degrees right, 180 degrees left etc rather than just 90 degrees :)

OK for 1 and 2 I will report the bug in whichever necessary subforum or main site of VLC :)

3. As for this... I meant that in VLC 0.9 we can edit id3 tag data I understand right? So we if we can edit album art too from within the same tag field box too you could add drag and drop for album art, look at the green arro here http://i30.tinypic.com/24q46qe.png - when editting could this rather cool design image be able to recieve drag +drop of image files for album art??

could also add the option to extract cover as a .jpg image like mp3tag but only in vlc

I read somewhere here that editting d3 tags would be possible from 0.9 VLC...

Oh sorry vlc_fan-01, CloudStalker forgot to reply to your PM. Just send a PM to j-b with your username and he'll register it and send a PM back to you confirming the registration. After that you should be able to login using that registered name and whatever your password is and the option to create a "New Ticket" will appear.

I haven't seen the options or when I opened any music format did I see the album art. I would be a nice feature, since it already plays a lot of formats. Haven't did the nightly builds yet, still wondering though. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into this software to even suggest a thing. But hey, there is no such thing as a bad idea.

Hi,
VLC is my fav player for both A & V.
Here's a couple of things I think would make it even better.

Media Tag information needs to be improved.
I use Tag& Rename to tag my music & audiobooks but little info shows up on VLC.
For ex. you have a "publisher" tag but T&R puts that under "Label" isn't there a way either of those fields be covered by MTI's publisher field?
My cover images are 240x240 px. jpgs, they don't appear.
I have no idea why???
I wish I didn't have to use iTunes to see that tag info displayed, it does so but not terribly well.
Also I think it would be nice if all that info could be displayed by user choice...no need to open Tools> MTI every time unless he/she wants to.
If the user opts for tag elements to be displayed the screen could show a library card type display with the image & relevant info.

One last thing, the default starting folder:
At present it opens in the C:\Program Files\VideoLan\vlc folder.
I keep no data in any program file folders, don't use My Pictures, My Music etc in fact, I suspect quite a few people such as myself keep no data on C drive.
I'd like to see VLC give the user the option to set that him/her self.
I don't see either options (1- double-clicking on the file or; doing file/open with...VLC) as adequate alternatives to giving the user the option to make is setting. If possible 2 default setting options should be offered; one for audio files, the other for video.

If you got this far...Thanks for reading this and keep up the good work.
DB
If it is worth doing, its worth doing it right.
