Any hope of adding new video file format.... .nsv files

Postby seboyd2000 » 26 Dec 2003 10:29

Nullsoft (winamp - shoutcast) has come out with a new video compression file called .nsv
It compresses video files more than divX, any hope of getting the VideoLan player to recognise these file formats in the next version?

Hello,

There are actually two things

- NSV which is a multiplexer, that seems rather proprietary. Specifications don't look to be publicly available. There are binaries available for winamp, but at the moment, it doesn't seem to be possible to make an open source demultiplexer.

- The video codec VP3 which is open source. For this one, it will probably be possible to integrate support in VLC, but we can't give you any date.

Actually VP3 is already supported by ffmpeg so we should be able to decode this if we had an nsv demuxer.
