streaming video over http

Postby shivaprasad » 05 Jun 2008 13:03

Hi,

Im trying to stream MPEG-4 videos over http, by following below procedure in Windows Vista...
1.In one VLC player, im going in to File->Wizzard->Stream to N/w
Then im specifying file name and then im giving ip address of my pc http://192.168.2.110:8080

2. I am opening one more VLC player, in that im giving
File->Open N/w Stream->..
Im specifying protocol type: http and im giving URL as http://192.168.2.110:8080

Wile doing this source VLC is giving "unable to open 8080" error.
Can anyone suggest any ideas..
:)

vista has some strange network implementation. you might not be able to create a sever listening for incoming connections that easily. [con|in]sult the vendor ;-)

Hi,
Have you tried another port than 8080? Port 8080 often used for web servers like apache tomcat etc. Not that I find it very likely, but maybe the vista people has put a restriction on this port for security reasons.
How about port 1234 (vlc default)?

Hi again,

Try this:
1) Open file and setup http server at 0.0.0.0:1234, use mux=ts and video codec=mp4v
2) connect another client to localhost:1234

i just tested this on my xp station, vlc 0.8.6.f w/o problem

Hi,

I followed your procedure for streaming over http..., but it is giving following error........"Unable to open 'http://localhost:1234'"
I am running Virtual Machine(OBUNTU) in my PC, while doing this..., will that be a problem???????????

hi,
you need to activate the promiscuous mode for the network adapter if you use vmware...
