help installing on SuSE 10.0

Postby romansky » 28 May 2008 02:04

I'm trying to install to suse 10.0 from the vlc suse info page. I've never used Yast to add a repository before, so I'm not sure what the error message I'm getting is telling me.

Here's what I've done:
Yast -> Installation Source -> Yast2 -> add -> HTTP -> typed in Servername as: download.videolan.org -> typed in directory name as: pub/videolan/vlc/SuSE/10.0
-> OK

Here's what I get:

'Unable to create installations source for url http://download.videolan.org/pub/vidoelan/vlc/SuSe/10.0'

Error:(InsctSrcE_no_instic_on_media)

I've no idea what the error message is telling me. Any insight would be helpful.

With thanks,
romansky

Hi,

SUSE Linux 10.0 is no longer supported. In fact, upcoming version of VLC will also not appear on SUSE Linux 10.1 anymore.
We try to keep support for SUSE distributions as long as they are covered by official Support from Novell.

You can consider upgrading your system. I'd just wait 2 weeks and go to the all new openSUSE 11.0 ;)

The website seems not to refelct this yet; will be fixed.
