VLC can't crash or freeze your Windows. Faulty drivers or hardware can. So first, update drivers (display adapter, soundcard, network adapter).

Hello, i have Windows XP Professional sp3 (before sp2) and Videolan 0.8.6f (before 0.8.6.d). My CPU is AMD x86_64, is a Sempron (Palermo) 3000+ and my mainboard is a Gigabyte GA-K8NS (Rev.1.x).

my problem is when playing videos. avi or XivD DivX format, with audio AC3 (5.1), to close it or leave it, this makes my operating system freezes, there was no other option than having to reset

Anyone him the same thing happens with AMD 64-bit? Are users and Intel 64-bit processors?

This problem has been happening since version 0.8.6c vlc and Windows XP SP2. Actual to ensure that no block use the system as an alternative mplayer, only to see the video with AC3 audio.

64-bit CPU shouldn't matter at all if you run 32-bit OS. Have you updated your drivers or tried different video and audio output modules from VLC?

Thanks VLC_help, what of the checked drivers and reinstall it and remained the problem.

And made it to test different modules output Videolan audio and video, and then what I have to restore the previous ones.

Now do not get stuck, thank you for your help.

Now Run Perfect, not Crash
