Postby hossein » 16 Apr 2008 16:09

Hi all,
I need to use laptop to stream a video and audio with the best quality in a project.
I want to use vlc for that. but i could'nt find a usb or usb2.0 capture device
in "Hardware compability list" that can use in laptop and has mp4 hardware encoding.
I bought and tested a "dazzle platinum dvc-170" but it seems that it can not
be defined by VLC!!

Unless your devices works as Directshow capture device, it doesn't work.

be defined by VLC!!
what does't that mean? -- couldn't it be used by VLC as DirectShow Device? was it not recognized? got some error message useing it?

Hi,
Thank you for your attention.
Dazzle DC170 is detected by VLC as a video device in Directshow tab of open device,
when i started to open the video and audio by selecting that from the list it seems
that vlc start without any error message, but no video and no audio in response.
I tried to see the dazzle from movie maker and other applications but they couldn't
see that too. They even couldn't find it as a video capture device!!
The only software which could find and work and show it was Tvideograbber demo
sofware that i have an evaluation version of that.
It uses Directshow too!!!
I don't know what is the problem and how can i find a soloution for that.
I tried to make a contact with Pinnacle tech. sup. but the answer was:
"we dont support any third party software!!"
I think it is very funny!!
any way i got tired to find a way to make known dazzle dvc170 for vlc,
but now i'm looking for a hardware that i described at the first post.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,

if you want support for that device - you may fillout a ticket (http://trac.videolan.org) and add the output of this small program to the trac entry:
http://people.videolan.org/~atmo/tools/devlist.exe
(http://people.videolan.org/~atmo/tools/src if you prefer compiling yourself.)

then we will look at and see what we can do for this device - or if it is too much change or work for the moment.
