Has anybody seen a good remote control tool for VLC?

Postby Danat » 03 Mar 2004 11:07

Hello people,

I was trying to find a good small remote control tool for the HTTP interface of VLC but was not able to. Do you maybe know of such a thing? Best would be Java and open source...Because otherwise, I'll have to write it on my own... :)

Greets,

what do you mean by such a tool? and why do it have to use http interface? Vlc supports remote controls through lirc on linux at least

Well, I mean just a small utility with some kind of a player interface (I mean a play button, stop, forward, etc.) that you could run everywhere (for example even on a mobile phone) and which would allow you to control the vlc player on your pc.

Don't know much about lirc, but normally it works only on the same pc, right? Just allows you to control it with a real (hardware) remote control. I need a program :)

I just want a remote that can turn off the lights after I have gotten comfortable in bed. :) well that, and a remote that announces the time on the clock when I wake up and all the digits are too blurry.

I know you didn't mean an actual remote, but honestly, I prefer waching video content on VLC to a regular TV and it's definitely got the edge over quicktime. So having a physical remote is actually a nice idea.

I am using VLC to serve video via http to my Roku HD1000 running CinemaSix. I also need a GUI Remote Console to select the files and control the stream. Everything I have found so far seems to assume that the RC and http client have the same IP, which is not the case since I'll be using my laptop as the RC platform (Win 2000). Another possibility would be to use the HD1000 itself as the remote console. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to do either.
