VLC 0.8.6d - S/PDIF fixed!

Postby Sorb » 06 Dec 2007 20:45

I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!...to whoever fixed this bug in VLC 0.8.6d:

* Linux: Fixed S/PDIF passthrough with ALSA

Finally ac3 sound works now!! I just had to turn on these settings:

* Use S/PDIF when available: ON
* (Advanced options) Audio output module: ALSA audio output
* ALSA Device Name: hw:0,1

I'm using Fedora 8. I've been waiting 10 months for this, now I finally don't have to reboot to Windows to run VLC there :)

I can't comment on AC3, but DTS doesn't in work in 0.8.6f. I did a fresh compile on gutsy and my hardware decoder receives no signal. It's unfortunate that I have to load windows just to play my 5.1 music :(

Have you ensured that the Audio Device is set to S/PDIF by going to:
Audio >> Audio Device >> A/52 over S/PDIF
