I spent the last hour searching the forums here, and I used the "search" feature, but I can't seem to find any exact information.
I want to be able to stream AVI or Mpeg1 files using http. In the future, I want to be able to stream live TV broadcasts, but for now I am just trying to find a way to stream the file. I have software set up so that I can use my PC as a webserver (not sure if it is needed), and I have VLC (obviously). I figured out how to stream using WMP (MMSH) and that seems to work fine. But when I try to use HTTP instead, nothing happens. Most likely, it's because I'm not sure what I am supposed to do. Some questions I have:
-- Does it matter what port I use?
-- When entering settings, under HTTP, should I enter an IP address? and if I do, should I enter the WAN IP address (actual IP address assigned by DSL modem), should i put localhost, or should I put the IP address that is assigned by the router (LAN IP address). Right now, I just want to get this to work on the LAN and will worry about expanding later.
-- Is it something I am doing wrong with the output? I have tried selecting both mpeg1 and AVI, but I cant seem to connect to the stream using IE.
-- Do I need to run the software to allow my PC to act as a webserver? I have tried both ways, but may be missing something.
The server seems to be streaming the video, or at least doing something with it. I can see the timer and can see that the movie is apparently playing. I just cant figure out how to view it.
Again just as a recap at what I am trying to do at the moment: I want to stream a video from my PC so that It can be viewed as an Mpeg1 or AVI (real time) using Internet Explorer or any other browser.
Thank you for any help.
