Beta release: VLC 0.8.0-test1

Going back to the 0.5.3 resampler for OS X

Postby PC+Mac » 19 Sep 2004 20:21

Hey guys, I have a problem with static in my audio in any version of VLC higher than 0.5.3. In other words, the static started with 0.6.0.

Looking at the change log for changes between 0.5.3 and 0.6.0:

Mac OS X port:
* When you add several items to the playlist, they are sorted alphabetically.
* New about panel and revamped preferences panel.
* Fixed the deinterlace menu.
* Float on top, Fit to Screen and a Transparency option for video out.
* New output dialog for transcode and display while stream capabilities.
* New icons by Davor Orel.
* New audio resampler. Should make VLC much faster.
* Fixed disappearing and crackling sound (PTS is out of range bug)
* We no longer automatically save the preferences when you quit the application
* Arrow keys are now use to browse the menus in a DVD

From the looks of it, the audio resampler seems to be causing the static and I think reducing the overall quality of the audio.

Would it be possible to implement the 0.5.3 resampler in 0.8.0? VLC in windows plays the same files fine, and so do Quicktime and mPlayer for OS X. It's only VLC for OS X that has this static problem.

Anyway, thanks. Hope to hear from a person on the development team soon.

VLC and M-Audio

Postby u3b3rg33k » 22 Sep 2004 02:27

this "issue" seems present in both 0.7.2 and 0.8.0;
with the latest M-audio drivers (driver v1.2.9, build 0000019A), a dvd with 5.1 channel audio plays L & R properly, but it outputs center on rear left, and i cant tell what on rear right, but it's NOT what you'd hear from the back right in a theater. is this a VLC "feature" or an M-audio "bug"?

this looks related:

couple of thoughts..

OS X 10.3.5 G3 800mhz ibook..

- lpcm support is still broken
- new version seems to have more trouble reading discs than 0.7.2
- performance is down using the OS X video output module
- opengl performance is about equal to 0.7.2 os x output

- lpcm: i know, i'll try to find a fix for that, i can imagine it's rather annoying.

- discs: do you have clearer discriptions about this? debug messages from the messages window?

- osxvid: oops. G3 that exists as wel of course. Totally forgot about that. i guess we will need to do some ugly trick to cover this....

- opengl: as expected.

Are you sure ?
I have the libx264_plugin.dll and the x264 parameters menu under modules/encoder

oh so it is.

--sout-x264-qp ???
i don't know what that option is for, but i'm guessing you are using it to transcode, what it doesn't do.

you don't have vlc's wxwindows module installed which is necesarry to provide the dialogs.

[00000001] main vlc warning: cannot load module `/usr/lib/vlc/gui/libwxwindows_plugin.so' (/usr/lib/libwx_gtk2-2.5.so.0: undefined symbol: _gtk_accel_group_detach)

How did you install this again exactly?
cause the symbols in the wxGTK library on your machine do not match those of the wxGTK lib with which this libwxwindows_plugin.so was created.
