I can't see the Output window on Suse 10.3

Hi all,

In advance, sorry for my bad english.
I have an AMD Athlon 64, 1.5Gb of RAM and Suse 10.3 for X86 with Compiz-Fusion.
Im use KDE,... This is my configuration...

1. I instaled video codecs to openSUSE 10.3 from http://opensuse-community.org/Restricted_Formats/10.3
(NOTE: Im select "Advanced mode" inside YaSt, and I check VLC )

2. Im instaled VLC media player for SuSe 10.3 from 1-Click install, within of your page. [ Main Menu ==> Help ==> About option, sais: VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus (wxWidgets interface) ]

When I perform right-Click under any video file and select "Open with --> VLC Media Player" I can hear the sound of the movie, but, only the sound. I can't see the Video Output screen, like yours screen shots.

You can help me to solve this problem ?
Do you know if this is an know issue ?
if so, what I need to do? Im newbie on linux.....

Hi,

try to 'play' with the Video Output options in the preferences (Advanced) dialog.

Or another try could be to disable compiz for a test.. I've already seen it eating some video windows somethimes

Is on: [ Main Menu ==> Settings ==> Preferences ==> Check Advanced Options ==> Video Options ] Right ??
I can't found your "play" option here..... , please, could you give me more details on this matter ?.....

By the other way....
I don't remember how to enable / disable Compiz-Fusion,
please,... could you refresh my memory under this topic ?

with 'to play' I meant you should try the different options that are available. I can not tell you which one is going to work... just try the different video output modes.

(and compiz fusion depends a bit.. either you had to activate XGL, then it's in the control panel, desktop effects, or you have the ccsm, where you can choose another window manager than compiz (might even be a try icon, where you can choose the other window manager, be it kwin or whatever you used)

I had a similar problem (was sound but there was no video), but i'd install the VLC from Yast.
So i did check, from what repository i have installed the rpm, it was the packman (i686). I deleted it, and set flag on the videolan repository (i586), and installed it.
After this all works fine.

Your solution works for me !!!!....
Now VLC work fine inside my Compiz Fusion.

Argh...

sorry for not thinking about that... once more we're bitten by PM

I now also created i686 packages of VLC to the VLC repo... normally, ours should have a higher version number and thus be 'preferred' over the PM ones (at least in theory, as long as we provide the same arch). I will upload them this evening then.
