Maximum of resolution capture device

Postby Kolyan » 23 Sep 2004 22:42

I've got Tv-tuner Gotview 7134 and I can capture with "own" soft picture with max resolution 768*576. But I can't capture picture with VideoLAN with the same resolution (max=320*240). Is it a limitation of "video for windows"? Have you a plan to remove this restriction by use an alternative way of capturing with VideoLAN?

many capture devices have such a limitation. The supported capture size is lower than the supported viewing size. it is quite common and often burried deep in very small letters on the last page of your product guide :)

My capture device CAN capture with resolution 768*576 and I can viewing this with Gotview soft because this soft "communicate" with driver of card straight. But cant do the same with VideoLAN because VideoLAN use the "video for windows".

Sorry, VideoLAN use directshow of course. But then I can't understand this bug because my card work normally with directshow - I were able capture 768*576 picture with iuVCR http://www.iulabs.com (it's independent universal for all cards soft), so my card and drivers work properly...

VLC queries the capture device driver about supported resolutions, it uses the first one returned by default, unless you specify one in the video size text box.
some drivers don' t return anything, hence VLC dshow defaults to a safe resolution: 320x240
usually when you enable 'device properties' option, some properties page allows to select the resolution to use.
