[Resolved] Issues installing Active X

Postby planethax » 19 Feb 2008 17:37

I have a VB6 app that uses the VLC ActiveX to convert my flv files to mpg (I have the GPL in setup and a note to users that the App uses VLC)
I am packaging it with Inno Setup.
My problem is, my app works only if I install the VLC mediaplayer and ActiveX before installing my Program.
If I do not install VLC media playermy app just hangs at the conversion.
Using Inno setup I am installing
libvlc.dll
axvlc.dll (and registering)
plus all files in plugins folder

Not sure what else to try,
(I can post inno scrit file here if that would help)

Thanx in advance.

Did I post in wrong section?
or is it to complicated to install VLC Plugin ActiveX with out installing the Media Player?

I have been reading the Docs about Cabs etc, but a bit over my head.

I just need to know how to install the ActiveX only and Not the Media Player?

Thanx.

I don't know why I am having so much trouble just trying to install this?

Has anyone ever just and installed the activeX and not the whole program?
Will it not work?
Please help me out here, I have read the following, not sure if that means I have to rebuild activex or not? if so how?
thanx

"III. Local Install

The VLC NSIS installer will install the ActiveX Control without requiring any
further manual intervention, but for people who like to live on the edge, here
are the steps you need to perform once you have built the ActiveX Control.

The ActiveX control DLL file may be copied anywhere on the target machine,
but before you can use the control, you will need to register it with Windows
by using the REGSVR32 command, as per following example:

REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\AXVLC.DLL

if the control needs to use external VLC plugins (i.e other than built-in ones),
make sure that the plugin path is set in the registry as per following example:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VideoLAN\VLC]
InstallDir="C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC"

The InstallDir must be the parent directory of the 'plugins' directory.

WARNING: Both control and plugins must come from the same build source tree.
Otherwise, at best, the control will not play any content, at worse
it may crash Internet Explorer while attempting to load incompatible plugins."

Wow, is this such a hard question that no one can answer? or so simple no one wants to answer lol.

Would like to know if it is even possible, or if ANYONE has ever done it successfully?

I would imagine it is, and I imagine I am just overlooking something small and simple. It has just been 3 days,
48 hours since I asked here, many views, just not 1 reply :(

Please atleast tell me if you have successfully installed activex/plugin with out thed complete VLC app.
Thanx.

Have I posted this is wrong forum??
Is that why I have 0 replies?
I do not want to cross post, so if Mod can move to correct section that would be great.
Thanx.

The Web and scripting forum would be more appropriate for questions about ActiveX (I'm not a mod so can't move this topic though).

Cheers, Arite.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

Thanx for your reply, it was really nice knowing some one was out there lol.

Make a long story short, the issue I was having was;
the lib files in the plugin folder, was not installing in the plugin folder, was installing in the app root folder.
Once they installed into Plugin folder, All was well.
(just in case some one else runs into this issue)
