MKV Sound Issues

Postby Dragonxpert » 20 Feb 2008 09:35

I hope this is the right place to post this. Anyways, I am not getting any sound on most of the mkv files I play in vlc. The few that I do, three that I know of, have choppy playback, but that isn't the concern of this post. The files that do not have sound have the following Stream and Media info:

Stream 0
-Codec: h264
-Language:
-Type: Video
-Resolution: (varies)

Stream 1
-Codec: undf
-Language:
-Type: Audio
-Channels: 2
-Sample rate: 44100Hz

General
-Duration: (varies)

I am running the most updated version of openSUSE GNOME, if that is of any help. Thank you in advance for help.

Can you analyse the file or give us different messages? Or give us the sample ?

I'm not quite sure how to "analyze" the file, but I did upload a copy of it to the internet:

EDIT:
I think this may have been what you meant.

OK, can you give us the sample?

What I read is that we don't support Vorbis in MKV.

By sample you mean the file, right? If so, there's a link in my previous post.

I have the same issue with 0.9.2 in SuSE Linux 11 on a 686 install from the skynet vlc ftp server.

On Linux, if I play a file I encoded with mkv, the video which is x264 plays fine, but the audio will not, with the error "No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." Under codec information, it says under Stream 1 that the codec is "undf" and the language is blank, with no vorbis comment.

But the same file under Windows (to clarify, this is using VLC 0.9.2 for 32bit XP to play the file) plays fine with it detecting the codec properly as vorb, and then says after that, the vorbis comment with the encoder as avidemux2.

If I play a file with the same codecs but using a OGM container, it detects fine on either OS.

I find it weird that the Linux version has an issue with mkv and Windows doesn't.The same file plays fine with mplayer under Linux.

I guess this question I posted was banned due to it being on the gen forum.
