Problem with playing m3u files

Postby Joshwa » 01 Feb 2008 13:00

Hello! Apologies in advance if the answer to this q is obvious. Have just got a mac and am not very familiar with terminology and coding etc.

I am trying to play a stream on VLC. It tells me that i need to copy the shortcut and open it in VLC. The URL i have been trying to play is:

http://81.223.254.223:8989/auth.xsl

They have told me that this is a m3u file and that VLC can play them but i need to set up VLC for m3u. I have no idea how to do this. I presume it is in the preferences section but i'm not sure what i need to change/add. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thank you

Joshwa

Sorry...i should have specified....the link is from a site where u have to sign up/pay for live streaming sports.

Is there a setting in vlc that i can change to enable it to play all m3 u files?

The link you provided is an XML (*.xsl file - Extensible Stylesheet Language I think) file which from what I can see is just a normal login XHTML file.

If you copy the URL of the *.m3u file itself (right-click on it and press something a long the lines of "Copy Link Location"), then you should be able to open VLC, go to "File >> Open Network Stream...", click on "HTTP/HTTPS/..." and paste the URL there. Then press OK.

Alternatively you could save the *.m3u file itself to your computer by right-clicking on it and press something like "Save Link As...". Then save it to a location of your choice and open it in VLC.

Cheers, Arite.
