service pack 2 interference

Seems as though pack 2 is not allowing vlc to
load an avi movie.

I'm running SP2, can open AVI OK in VLC.
Any chance that you're actually just hitting movies encoded with something VLC doesn't handle, like IV50?
Open View -- Messages, before trying to open a video. See if it pops up an error message of the form: "no suitable decoder module for fourcc "

I have the same problem as you since SP2 is installed. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not, can't find on what it depends........ Do anybody know something else?????
