Here's my findings:
Objective: to capture video from Comcast set top box. Play it with VLC and encode it with MPEGStreamClip.
Problem: VLC plays the video but no audio.
What to do? mess around for 5 days and think.
What capture software was I using: AVCVideoCap from SKD 25.
Why is it not playing audio and giving the .m2t file lost buffers? I don't know. I'm trying.
What about another capture software? Let's try AVCBrower .03 Dang it works well with VLC in the past, why not now. It does work well currently VLC plays video and audio on the re-captured same .m2t file which gave me troubles.
What is different between AVCVideoCap and AVCBrowser? AVCBrowser asks where to save the file and IT gives the .m2t file a name such as 123456789876.m2t ; then VLC plays the video and the audio with zero lost buffers. AVCVideoCap asks the user what name to give it and where to save it. User give a name such as dark days.m2t ;VLC plays the video and no audio with lost buffers.
What if I just re-name the file since it has been captured? No go re-capture it.
What if I use AVCVideoCap and have no spaces in the file name? Let's try it. darkdays.m2t then capture that m2t file and VLC plays the video and the audio with barely no lost buffers.
Hope this helps other who have problems.
