TS file playback error and complicated files :-\

hey my friend recieved these HD files of Doom the Movie. he couldn't get them to play with any player so he sent me the files and wanted me to see what I could do. well guys I am really stuck on this one. the files are listed with this name as they were sent to me as follows:

now heres the wierd part. then it came with these "PAR2" files with the same name

ok now I try to play the TS Files on VLC and I can tell it detects the sound but doesn't play it. no video period. doesnt even detect it. then I went out and got the CCCP Codec Pack. I tried it on Media Player Classic and it was able to play the audio fine but still no video. so thats where im stuck at. I have no idea what these PAR2 files are and how to get the TS files to play fully on ANY player. and before you ask... yes I have tried every available codec pack I could find including the mega packs.

EDIT: so no one gets mad, I have no idea where my friend got these files, if he downloaded them or something I don't really care. What I do care about is getting them to play. thx for your help

Put the file back together again

Sounds like an archive to me.

I did notice the files are labeled VC-1 1080p DTS and these are supposed to be in a MPEG TS container? Sounds like a bad experiment to me. While I may get an encoder to make the file and I may even get by a stubborn muxer to create the final file. I doubt very much I would be able to find a player to play it or a fast enough computer to play it on.

well if I can at least get the file to play with any video and audio, then I would convert it to divx HD so it would play full speed

EDIT: I Found something extra trying to get the file to play that might be interesting to you since I don't know what the heck im looking at XD. I got this error trying to play it on MPC

I am currently posting on another thread regarding similar issues with VLC.

VLC is currently unable to play any such files but if you are desperate you can find other players that are capable of playing it. If you find the right codec packs you should be able to play it on a regular Media Player. FFMpeg's latest codec should be enough. Latest Media Player Classic or KMPlayer (which is commonly used by our asian friends) is recommended. I recommend searching through the forums on the Silu website for more information about these codecs (you will need a crash course in chinese though). I have managed to get the latest builds of MPLayer to play it but that's after I have identified the PIDs of the streams. Cyberlink PowerDVD 7.3 and later should be able to play it fine but beware; it's legacy BluRay/HDDVD codecs seem to mess up the Windows BD/HDDVD Codec configuration.

These .ts files are getting more and more common on the internet and some people may find them somewhat exotic, but they aren't really. There were two main goals to be fulfilled when the .ts were created: 1) The content of the .ts file should be exactly the same as the content of the BluRay/HDDVD disc (when decrypted of course) and 2) The .ts file should fit regular DVD discs (that's why you have several ~4.5GB .ts files).

Along with the .ts files you have a bunch of .par2 files making it look like an archive or something. Well, it isn't. The .par2 files contains data validation information which is also able of correcting some degree of data corruption within the bundle. It is just like the .sfv file for WinRar archives or the hash tables for P2P programs, or the CRC checksum on harddrives, but more advanced since it uses the Reed Solomon Code which is also used in CDs and DVDs (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed-Solom ... correction for more information). These files are generated by the open-source program QuickPar (available from http://www.quickpar.org.uk/) which you can use yourself to check the integrity of the .ts files. This makes sure that no data has been lost during transfer over the internet.

I suppose I could upload a clip. The quotation law should allow us to share at least a few seconds without infringing the copyright laws. I have now extracted two clips of 25MB (c:a 5 secs) each using a regular file splitter; the first one shows the Universal logo and the second one is from the middle of the movie. Both samples play fine in PowerDVD 7.3 but only the first one play fine on MPlayer.
