RTPS authentication problem with Axis videoserver

Postby rullbandspelare » 21 Sep 2005 14:48

Hi!
I have a Axis 241 that requires username and password (I do not want Anonymous viewers).

I can view the rtps stream when i dont use paswordprotection, but with authentication it will not work. I have asked Axis support and gotten this answer:
username:password@ is not allowed (RFC 2328 chapter 3.2) Enable anonymous viewer login it will work without username/password to get the RTSP stream. The solution for the customer is to in the application add a “Authorization” field described in RFC 2616 chapter 14.8 to send user and password. http://rfc.net/rfc2616.html#p107 Best regards, Axis Customer Services
Any ideas how i can get VLC to authenticate itself?
I have tried rtsp://user:passwd@10.0.0.1/mpeg4/1/media.amp but that dont work.

Thanks!!

/tomas

I have been having trouble viewing a password protected rtps stream from an authenticated Real Server. I imagine that my difficulties are similar to those of rullbandspelare. I look forward to the implementation of this feature.

Let me add to my previously vague and poorly written post.

When I try to access the Real Video stream I want I get the following error. I have also tried using the rtsp://user:pass@server/file syntax.

ERROR MSG:
livedotcom error: describeURL failed (cannot handle DESCRIBE response: RTSP/1.0 401 Unauthorized)
main warning: no access_demux module matching "rtsp" could be loaded

I can view the stream correctly in Real Player, which I have installed.

I am interested to know if my problem is really because
"we currently don't support clientside RTSP authentication. BAD BAD BAD" (Ticket #359)
or if there is something else I should be doing.

If I can get this to work. VLC appears to be the solution to my quest to capture my school's streaming lecture videos so I can play them on a portable media player. RM Recorder software works for this purpose, but it's not free.

Thanks!!

Hello,

Any updates on this ?

I have a camera-IP Axis 210, I have to protect it with a password.
I need vlc for relaying the stream over a network

If any solutions were found with RTSP Basic Auth in VLC, could someone give me a workaround for handling a RTSP stream and relaying it protected by auth ?

Thanks a lot :)

EDIT: The stream server must run on Linux

Try version vlc-0.8.5.
Thats the only version which I tested RTSP authentication successfully with my Axis cam.
No clue why the Dev team lost this important feature in any later version. :(

Cheers
