Ubuntu Gutsy .86d not showing up.

Postby theShaggy » 07 Dec 2007 07:02

Hi, I can't seem to upgrade my VLC to the newest security fix.

All the instructions tell me to upgrade my Synaptic and apt-get, but having done this, there are no updates available. All I have for my Gutsy-64 is 0.86c, but d is not available.

Am I missing something? All my repos are enabled, and VLC doesn't provide any deb files for me to install.

0.8.6d is a security release for Windows and macosx ONLY

On UNIX you aren't affected by any vulnerability.

So I doubt gutsy will update it (maybe in updates repositories, but not soon)

Ahh. That would explain it, thank you. It is implied, but it isn't explicit on the website.

http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/browser/tags/0.8.6d/NEWS (linked to from the main page) doesn't show any vulnerability for unix.

Now it is the reponsibility of Ubuntu to decide or not if they provide an updated binary.

FYI Hardy has vlc 0.8.6d

Fair point, but i want the latest and greatest. videolan should run there own repository with the newest main version ie 0.8.6d.

this bug fixed in 0.8.6d is making my head spin
* Automatic recovery on unexpected stream discontinuity (clock gap) occurrences in input
anyone know where i can get the latest and greatest version from ? for ubuntu 7.10
god knows what will happen if i add Hardy to my repository list and thats with locking all the packages in it.

I'm interesting in "Linux: Fixed S/PDIF passthrough with ALSA" bugfix for Ubuntu 7.10.
Does anyone know how update Ubuntu 7.10 to vlc 0.8.6d?

Thanks.

Maybe we should wait a bit for it or look at the svn version

http://www.generation-nt.com/vlc-faille ... 65632.html

Reading this news, it should maybe have a new release

maintaining repositories for each and every distro is boring and complex.

if you need the last of last version, use unstable ubuntu, or unstable vlc from nightlies.videolan.org

finally, 0.8.6e will be coming shortly, and sure will be in gutsy ;)
