Hmm...well not exactly what I meant. I was thinking that it would work independent of the "Minimal View" since some might want the controls displayed but not the menu bar. Well I guess this will do. Thanks. 8)

THUMBNAIL CREATION _FROM VLC'S 'SnAPSHOT'

What about this suggestion, Thumbnail caption using the VLC 'snapshot feature' it should not require any DirectX or anything else like that on Windows because VLC can already take a snapshot of any video all this feature would do is take several intervalled snapshots just like Media Player Classic can do.

Hey jb CloudStalker has a question: will the third person ever get old? No that's not the question, :P the question is this: will you be able to make it so that VLC can remember exactly where it was on the screen before it was closed? Also, would it be possible to have it remember the exact parameters of VLC and the position of columns? Basically it'll remember whatever the user resized the player and menus to. Here's a pic of VLC with the embedded playlist with my slight alterations:

Image
Size: 490x430

So might it be possible for VLC to do this?

Great! :D

Now CloudStalker has another question: Is VLC able to display album art yet? I haven't been able to test the latest builds because of the "Assertion error" that I keep getting. :(

But unfortunately CloudStalker and many others do have this problem.

"Assertion failed"!

I also made a ticket about this not too long ago.

(29) New VLC Icons

- Updated 07/02/08
  • Improved Icon Quality
  • Improved Icon Colors
  • Added MU3... media type color
vlc_fan-01 gave CloudStalker the great idea to redo the vlc icons with a document style for file types. Minus the actual document style, CloudStalker did manage to come up with something that he hopes will finally be the replacement to this: Image

CloudStalker took an already existing VLC icon, modified it a bit and added text. His first design was this one:

Image

the basic idea here is that the color will describe the media type (green: audio, blue: video, Yellow: DVDs, ect) and the text will describe the file type (MP3, DVIX, ect). Eventually this led to a more simplistic look that's not all too flashy but still looks pretty good, and most importantly it serves purpose of informing the user of the file type and also to replace "ughah" Image

Here are the most recent ones that CloudStalker modified and added to:

Image

Tell CloudStalker what user thinks and hopefully we'll be able to get a new icon by next release or the release after next. :D

My question is not answerd:

About to compile the QT gui only with .pro file doesnt works at the moment.

Is planned a feature to can compile QT gui seperate? only with QT?

i mean Gui connects to core , but for compiling the QT gui doesnt need the core was the best.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? So does this mean that it's a no go for the icon? I have a little bit of time so if there any adjustments that you guys can recommend I'll try to make them. COME ON! This is the new, modern VLC we're talking about here.

I guess that I could work on it a little more but at the very least if you don't want it to replace the "No album art found" image then it would be nice to have a fresh look to those "Associated with VLC" icons in the explorer, don't you think? Well anyway you decide.

Hey do you think that you might consider a cosmetic change for that new volume slider that you implemented? I thought that maybe the slider could incline from minimum to maximum with all of the same colors plus a drop shadow of a different color to add an even nice visual effect. Of course much of what CloudStalker just said wouldn't make sense without some mock-ups. :P

So what do you think? Maybe? :)

the new slider is not finished yet. But it won't stay a rectangle like that.

Like it very much!
But still, I have a problem here.
Since 20071129 builds, I always get an error at startup, saying that it couldn't find "QT4core.dll", and reinstalling application might help resolving this problem.
Well, it doesn't. After clicking OK, it starts wxwidgets.
I waited a few days for new versions, hoping installing them would help, but it didn't. Still on wxwidgets now.
Going back doesn't help the least either.
Still I seem to be the only one having this problem. Or what is it?
Thanks for your help!
€: Using installer normally. But also the 7z didn't help.
€: 20071125-0001 is the last one working for me. Going back to that actually DID help. So I'll stick with that.

And even if you have the qtcore4.dll and qtgui4.dll in the VLC directory, wxwidgets will start instead of qt4.

Sorry to bother but here's some more info on that "Assertion failded" error that I (and some others) continue to get whenever files are added through the "Add to VLC media player's Playlist", "Play with VLC media player context menu:

This happens when reading both folders and/or DVDs. If I right-click on a folder or DVD and click "Add to VLC media player's Playlist" I immediately get the "Assertion failed" message and VLC crashes.

The only way for me to load items into the playlist is to first open the the folder that contains my music/videos and select whichever items I want and then drag and drop into VLC, this presents another slightly annoying thing because none of the titles to song/videos are displayed but instead the full path is displayed and I have to click on each item for it to display properly.
