Samba and VLC and Gutsy

Postby henke54 » 25 Nov 2007 22:07

I have the a kind of the same problem as this guy

I use samba/cifs on my linux ubuntu-7.10 server. When i open a file from my mounted network drive, VLC (or any other player) opens but does not play the file. It seems like it can't stream the file directly from the server like on my other windows pc. I need to download the whole file to my local hard disk before i can play it.

Either you did not mount properly, or the CIFS driver is broken, or the network is too slow for real-time play. Especially if this affects all media players.
