Divx to DVD using vlc??

Postby larshaggard » 21 Aug 2004 03:57

I am new to vlc. It is the only player that I have been able to find that plays a copy of a avi movie that uses (I believe) some sort of divx codec. Whatever the codec is, vlc plays it. What I would like to do is convert this movie to dvd so I can burn and play on my home dvd player. All conversion programs I have looked at will not even recognize the particular codec. Can vlc output to a file which will burn dvd (.vob format??)? Please, no high tech answers, since I am not high tech myself. Thank you all!

You should try using transcoding.
Go in "File" -> "Open File ..."
chose the avi file you want to work with.
check the "Stream output" check box and click on the "Settings ..." button.
select output method "File" and enter the output file name
Then chose the Encapsulation Method and Transcoding options.

This should do the trick.

first you need to set it to standard dvd resolotion.
which is 720x480 if it has to be fullscreen.
for audio use mpeg or pcm audio format.
then it should look normal

worth to try

...and you have to use MPEG PS (*.vob) as encapsulation format and of course mp2v as video format.
