[VLC 0.8.6c] Saving AVI files after repairing (reindexing)

Postby imm0rta1 » 21 Oct 2007 09:13

Hello,

Could You guide me through my issue?

a) I have a broken AVI file

b) I load the AVI file - VLC asks me if I want to repair it

c) VLC repairers everything and the AVI works fine

d) but when I run the same file again I must start everything from point "b)"

How can I save the fixed AVI file after the reindexing process is done?

Thanks in advance for Your support!

VLC can not do that.

I don't know how to fix that problem, without transcoding the file again ? :/

mplayer can generate indexes too, for broken avi files, but it lets the index in a SEPARATE file, so I suppose it's a bit complex to put the index back in the .avi.

@funman , @all

It is not possible??? You are kidding me, right?

Oh gosh, so I'm now thinking loud why the heck this feature implemented at all?

so that each time when I want to watch a broken AVI I must reindex it over and over again?

Is there any thread with update suggestion for that???

:D

greetings

You can try to fix you broken AVI with Virtualdub by resaving the AVI to new file.

I did it..and indeed VLC can now open it without any error message..BUT I cannot seek in the file, cannot move the play head or the files go directly to the end.
Could you please explain me what is happening? and a possible fix?
Thnaks very much

Can you seek those files with other media players?

Not at all!
Actually this is what I done..and it now works.
I saved the file in VirtualDub as suggested upper.
Then I opened the resulting file in "VideoFixer" and I strip the index, then rebuilt it...and it now works correctly.
